Hey, folks. Missed a week and a half . . . that's my bad, but I have been writing things, so I'll be making up for a little lost time. I've also discovered the joys of photo stitching and am finishing up going through all the pictures I took in Beijing. So. This Pic o' the Week is actually a double-Pic. I give you:

Soooo, it's that time again. I have a bunch of pictures I could share, what with my flaking out on this for . . . almost two months. I thought I'd share something from our trip to Beijing we recently took. I had to go there in order to renew my passport, which expired next year (They wouldn't get me a new residence permit for the coming year if I didn't, so it was either that or . . . deported). And since I had to go to Beijing to do that anyway, Christina and I thought we'd make a trip of it.
So here we are:

Hello, world. It's been a while. No, I'm not dead. Just tired.
April hasn't been too bad: ups and downs, strikes and gutters. I'm failing the NaNoWriMo challenge pretty miserably. I'm not even gonna come close. That's what I get for trying to write without an outline, I s'pose. Blogspirit tells me I got over 1,300 visits to my blog this month . . . I should drop off the face of the Earth more often.
Anyway, I'll resolve to post more . . . which will probably last a good four days before I get distracted by something shiny and don't post till June. But until then, here's the Pic o' the Week.
Anyang Normal University held its yearly sports event days, where students get to sign up and compete in various sporting events. It was pretty fun seeing all the different events. There was a javelin throw, various foot races, long jump, high jump . . . all that Olympic crap. And the students seemed really jazzed about it all. Christina saw one of her students who competed and when asked how she did, she said cheerfully, "I came in last!" A few students (and one administrator) asked me if there was anything like this in America. I said politely . . . yes. Every week, depending on the sport and the season.
Anywho, here's my pic:

We have completely moved into our new apartment (except for the water heater in the shower, which delivers a mild electric shock when used (I was the one who discovered that), so we have to traipse back to our old apartment to take a shower), and it is so much better than our old one. So much better. It's less drafty. It has a tile floor instead of concrete. And it's on the fifth floor, which puts us above the mosquitoes and such . . . even if it is a trek every time to get up and down.
And this Pic o' the Week is our new view out our living room window. It's . . . well, it's special.

Alrighty, we are back from Linzhou and do I have some pictures for you!
Yes.
Here we go.
Oy, I'm getting all gwiggly thinking about it.
OK, OK.
Here I am:

This Pic o' the Week is what we call a cop-out, kids. Daddy's tired and he doesn't have any pictures on his computer because a big bad doodle made him format his system and reinstall Windows.
That's right, kids, "Booooooo on that doodle!"
But the good news is, right before we lost the internet, Christina and I uploaded the second half of our pictures from our Yunnan trip to Snapfish. Does everyone remember where that is? That's right!
And what was the room code? You better believe it's chinaphotos!
Very good, kids. Now. Oh last thing: Do you know what today is, kids? That's right it's the Ides of March! Do you know what happened today, a long, long time ago? Well, a bunch of grumpy old white men stabbed a man over twenty times until he was just a bloody mess--thereby blurring the line between a republic and mob-rule and also becoming the evil they sought to destroy.
That's right, kids, "Yaaaaaaaaaay, republics!"

Hey hey hey!
Wanted to update the 'ol blogger before climbing into bed so I can wake up before the sun comes out tomorrow (accursed eight o'clock classes!).
Christina and I concluded the second half of our Yunnan trip photos on my Snapfish account. Once again, you can find them here, room code:

Classes this term look like they could be a mixed bag. I was assigned no English majors, the closest being Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language majors. Which means the language skills of my students blows monkey chunks. And they're not exactly loquacious . . .
Anywho, this Pic o' the Week actually came from a couple of weeks ago. It was the end of the Spring Festival and the foreign teachers gathered to set off a few fireworks.

Hello, everyone! Happy New Year! Jesus, has it been that long since I posted? Yeesh. I see on my little blog stats page that you have visited The Brain Dump a total of 364 times. And I, lazy schmuck that I am, have not been posting. For that, I apologize.
At the same time, I must announce that I will be going on hiatus until about the third of February. This is because Christina and I will be traveling to the Yunnan province for the remainder of the month. We leave Tuesday evening, arriving at the provincial capital, Kunming, on the morning of the 15th. Everyone we have mentioned our plans to tells us that Yunnan is one of the most beautiful provinces in China. Christina and I are very excited. We have a loose plan and a few hostel reservations, but we're remaining flexible, as we have come to realize that is the only way to make any plans in China.
I apologize again for not posting. I may post (very) sporadically along the trip at an internet cafe here, an internet cafe there, but don't count on it. The plus side is I bought a brand new spiffy camera to take lots and lots of pictures with. So there will be a payout at the end of this.
As for today, I was walking along one of the back alleys in-between our apartment complex and the school when I happened upon this little scene (also the first picture taken with my new camera). Some sort of Chinese street opera. It was pretty fascinating to watch.

Hello, all. Sorry for the hiatus. We lost our internet last Doodle Day, and then Christmas spooged all over us and I didn't find the time to keep up with the ol' blog. But that hubbub is over. Christina and I put together a Christmas photo album on my snapfish account, found here (room code = chinaphotos).
This Pic o' the Week comes from Boxing Day, the day when all of the foreign teachers (and their assorted better halves) could get together and exchange a Secret Santa gift. Christina got a very nice comb. I got two sets (his and hers) of travel-sized chopsticks, fork, and spoon. And a giant lollipop.
